Welcome to the enchanting land of Shangri-La! Our adventure begins in Dukezong Old Town, renowned as China’s most well-preserved Tibetan town. As you acclimatize to the thin air at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level, the beauty and serenity of Shangri-La will start to captivate your senses.
On the following morning, we will visit Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in all of China, often referred to as the “Little Potala Palace.” This majestic site is not only significant spiritually but also architecturally stunning. After this enriching experience, participate in an authentic Tibetan Sound Meditation guided by a local master, allowing you to connect deeply with the Tibetan culture and spirituality. After returning to your hotel to refresh, we’ll venture into the tranquil Ringha Valley for an evening visit to Dabao Temple, a serene sanctuary away from the more touristy spots. Our day concludes with a delightful Christmas Eve Dinner at Ferme Liotard, where you can indulge in exquisite local cuisine surrounded by the warmth of the holiday spirit.
Merry Christmas! We journey north today, passing the historic Helong Bridge, noted for its significance during the Communist Long March from Sichuan into Yunnan. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Jinsha River from various vantage points as we travel along the scenic old highway through the picturesque Baima Mountain range. Our adventure culminates with a visit to the Tibetan stupas and the awe-inspiring view of Kawagebo, a revered sacred peak that attracts Buddhist pilgrims from around the region. After a day filled with exploration, check in to Sunyata Meili, where you can unwind while soaking in stunning views of the majestic Meili Mountain. A cozy Christmas Day Dinner awaits you at the hotel, providing the perfect setting to celebrate the holiday.
Start your morning with a breathtaking sunrise over Meili Mountain, a sight that promises to be etched in your memory forever. After breakfast, we will head northeast, passing through Feilaisi, a charming Tibetan village. Our journey takes us further off the beaten path to the picturesque Kongque Mountain, where a light hike will reward you with serene landscapes and vistas. We will eventually arrive at our lodge in Bingzhongluo, a hidden gem nestled along the pristine Nujiang River in northeastern Yunnan, known for its untouched beauty.
The Nujiang region is famed for its stunning natural scenery, deep gorges, and rich biodiversity. Today, we'll immerse ourselves in the unique Nu culture, visit a beautiful Tibetan temple and explore the protected areas of the Nujiang National Park. In the late afternoon, we’ll take a short, scenic walk to Wuli Village for tea at Sunyata Ji, an opportunity to connect with locals and learn about their way of life.
After our enriching time in Wuli, make your way back to Meili for a leisurely lunch to break up the drive to Benzilan. Upon arrival at LUX Benzilan, unwind and reflect on your incredible journey through this Tibetan paradise. Take in the tranquil surroundings and perhaps enjoy a stroll through the picturesque landscapes.
As our adventure draws to a close, we’ll take a slow drive around the breathtaking Napa Lake that may be covered with snow at this time of the year. Enjoy a stop at a charming café to soak up the last of these awe-inspiring high-altitude views. This journey will leave you with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and culture of Shangri-La before you catch your onward flight.
