Welcome to Chengdu, the vibrant capital of Sichuan province, where rich history meets spicy culinary delights. As you step off the plane, a friendly driver will be waiting to whisk you away to the historic Kuanzhai Alley, a picturesque blend of traditional architecture and modern shops. Here, you'll savour your first taste of Sichuan's famous spicy hotpot, a mouthwatering experience that sets the tone for your culinary explorations ahead.

Your second day begins with a deep dive into Chengdu’s cultural heritage. Wander through the serene grounds of the Dufu Thatched Cottage, the former residence of the Tang Dynasty poet Dufu, where the beauty of nature inspired countless works of poetry. Next, pay your respects at the Wuhou Shrine, dedicated to Zhuge Liang, an iconic figure from the Three Kingdoms period. As the day unfolds, head to People's Park to sip fragrant tea and engage with locals, absorbing the leisurely style of life prevalent in Sichuan. For dinner, indulge in a dining experience at Shu Yan Fu, where modern interpretations of imperial banquet dishes will tantalise your taste buds in an elegant setting.

Our adventure takes you outside the city limits to visit the renowned Dujiangyan Panda Base, where you'll have the chance to observe these adorable creatures in their natural habitat, indulging in bamboo and playfully interacting with each other. After enjoying your fill of panda sightings, visit Dujiangyan, the oldest irrigation system still in use today, built during the Qin Dynasty. Marvel at this engineering marvel that has shaped agriculture in Sichuan for centuries. Before heading back to Chengdu, stop by the unique Zhongshuge bookstore, where the architecture alone is a dreamy escape into the literary world.

Next up, embark on a bullet train ride to Jiuzhai-Huanglong, kicking off the day with a visit to Songpan Ancient Town. At an elevation of 2,800 meters, this historical gem enchants with its preserved Tang Dynasty architecture and stunning mountain vistas. Walk along the ancient city walls, gaining insight into its role as a critical stop along the historic trade routes to Tibet. If conditions permit, stretch your legs with a light hike in the naturally stunning Mouni Valley, where you can relish the tranquility of this lesser-known paradise. Option to rest at your cozy boutique hotel, slowly acclimating to the thinner air.

The first UNESCO World Heritage site we visit in the Aba Tibetan autonomous region is Huanglong National Park, famous for its stunning travertine terraces and vibrant pools that glisten under the sun. Catch a cable car ride up to the highest point, where breathtaking panoramic views of the surreal landscape await you. After soaking in the mesmerising scenery, we drive to Jiuzhaigou where you can relax at the hotel before dinner or try your hand at Tibetan prayer flag printing.
